Reflection

The Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus as the Messiah of Israel, Son of God and Saviour of the world. The great feast of the Epiphany celebrates the adoration of Jesus by the wise men (magi) from the East, together with his Baptism in the Jordan, and the wedding feast at Cana in Galilee. In the magi, representatives of the neighbouring pagan religions, the Gospel see the first-fruits of the nations, who welcome the good news of salvation through the incarnation. Three wonders mark this day we celebrate: Today the star led the Magi to the manger; today the water was changed into wine at the marriage feast; today Christ desired to be baptised by John in the river Jordan to bring us to salvation, alleluia.
